Drainage works on campusA significant stormwater upgrade for the Peninsula campus and surrounding local area is being undertaken by Pipelines Alliance, which includes Melbourne Water. The works include tunnelling underneath the front left carpark adjacent to Bunnings (see map below), which will temporarily impact on 110 blue car parking spaces. The works will commence on 14 September with the initial closure of 65 blue permit spaces.
As there are usually more than 65 vacant blue car spaces at this time of semester, particularly in the gravel carpark located behind the Upperdeck Cafe, it is anticipated that most drivers with blue permits will still find a park on campus. Pipelines Alliance is also providing an alternative carpark to the campus during this period which staff and students with blue permits might like use. The opening of this temporary carpark, located at the corner of Burnley Street and Deane Street, has been delayed due to some planning issues that are expected to be finalised before the further 45 blue permit spaces will be utlisied. Deane Street can only be accessed from Cranbourne Road, and the carpark is just across the railway line at the back of the campus. It is a two to three minute walk to campus from this temporary carpark. There will be more than 100 spaces available for blue parking at this site during the works period. As well as solving stormwater problems on campus, which have led to flooding in the past, the campus will also benefit from the project by a series of rainwater tanks being installed along the McMahons Road fenceline which will filter and capture the stormwater for re-use in irrigation for the campus grounds.
The Pipelines Alliance works include:
The campus very much appreciates your patience during these works and if you expect your daily routines to be impacted, you might consider using the alternate carpark as soon as it opens to make your own start and end to the day more predictable. Any queries in the meantime should be directed to Shaun Tankard at Security and Parking. |
