On a wheel and a prayerSid Rajan is a Sport and Outdoor Recreation student at the Peninsula campus. He lives in the residences and he is driven to achieve things that would never enter most people's minds. His current project is to ride his unicycle across Australia from Perth to Sydney. Many may find this trip challenging in the comfort of four wheels, let alone one, but there is something about Sid that makes you think that this kind of trip is quite normal. This is not the first adventure that Sid and his unicycle have undertaken. In 2007 he undertook a ride for peace from Delhi, India to Lahore, Pakistan - a lazy 537 km. His ride for peace required the intervention of the Indian Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and the Pakistani Foreign Minister to get a Visa. But nothing deters Sid not even the going head-to-head with Delhi traffic on one wheel. His motto: "one wheel, one world" has taken him on may adventures. His passion is understated almost laid back but very obvious in his drive. His current ride will raise funds for two charities The Clown Doctors and the Ved Vigyan Maha Vidya Peeth, an organisation that provides free education to children in rural India. He will also use his experience as the basis for his thesis. His West to East crossing is a total of 6026 km including 1300 km across some of this countries most arid land - the Nullarbor. You can follow Sid's journey online. ![]() Upgrade / install Flash player for optimum video viewing or refer to the alternative versions below. Alternative versions: More on SidThe Age article |
