Peninsula Welcomes New Students
2008 Orientation has seen the campus a-buzz with Faculty Welcomes, information sessions, tours, BBQs, MONSU and sports activities to name but a few.
Orientation officially got underway on Wednesday February 20 with the Campus Welcome. Peninsula staff looked splendid processing into the George Jenkins Theatre in their Academic Dress, and Cara Alphey from MONSU did a wonderful job as MC for the event.
Professor Phil Steele and MONSU President Matt Keates cut a Monash 50th Anniversary cake which was shared by all for morning tea.
Despite the changeable weather, hundreds of onlookers were able to witness an Indigenous Smoking Ceremony performed outside the George Jenkins Theatre. New students were then grouped with others from their faculty and taken on guided tours of the campus.
Many academic and professional staff have played a part in Orientation 2008. Whether organising or presenting sessions, conducting library tours, staffing ‘Open Labs’ or donning a BBQ apron, all did a marvelous job in making our new students feel welcome.

Meeting Point will also be offering $5 dinner packs after 3.00pm - great for residents and those staying late on campus!
Now let’s get serious about your research!
“Now let’s get serious about your research!” is designed as a one-day research-focused program which aims to introduce new research candidates to the Peninsula research community.
While it is open to all research students, it specifically endeavors to include part-time candidates and those who have joined Monash since the beginning of 2007 but have missed out on a formal induction or orientation.
A panel of recently completed postgraduates, who are also staff members at Monash, will talk about balancing work, study and life, followed by a panel on research methods and a workshop on advanced word processing for research.
Lunch will be provided, vegetarian and other options available on request.
