New students welcomed to Peninsula

More than 450 new students commencing at Peninsula in 2007 attended a full range of Orientation activities held over the past few weeks.

The official opening ceremony welcomed new students to the campus on Wednesday, 21 February and was followed by morning tea, campus tours and academic welcomes.

Academic areas, Health, Wellbeing and Development, ITS, Monash Residential Services, the International Student Support Unit and the Student Union all ran a variety of events and activities that helped new students with the transition to university life.

Health Science Research seminars

The Department of Health Science's Seminar series for 2007 will have it's first presentation on Wednesday, 7 March from 1-2 pm in seminar room G4.32.

The first seminar will be titled 'Choice and voice: obesity debates in Australian television news', by Dr Ben Smith.

A range of diverse seminars will be held during the semester, all at 1 pm in room G4.32.

 Getting SMARTS at uni

Staff are asked to remind students of the following program being run by Health, Development and Wellbeing (Community Services).

If maximizing your learning and reaching your potential is on the top of your agenda, than this is the program for you.

Join the four day SMARTS program to learn how to:

  • Understand and Improve your Learning
  • Make the most of your TIME
  • Stay MOTIVATED and avoid PROCRASTINATION
  • Manage your STRESS to maximize your potential

The program commences on Monday, 12  March to Thursday, 15 March, from 1 pm to 2 pm, in Building A at the Health, Wellbeing and Development, Group room. Please contact us on extn 44223 to book your place.

Staff Club news

The Monash Peninsula Staff Social Club is up and running for 2007 with a range of events and activities planned.

  • Tuesday, 13 March from 12 noon to 2 pm.  BBQ lunch (sausage or vegie burger plus drink), outdoor area, building C. Free for members, $3 non-members
  • Wednesday, 4 April from 10-11 am. Easter morning tea (Hot Cross Bun and cappuccino,) Campus Lounge, building A. Free for members, $3 non-members.

Healing hands

Staff are reminded that masseur Vivian Parish is available on campus every Monday from 9 am to 9 pm.

Vivian can provide remedial and relaxation massage and has a Diploma in Remedial Massage, a Diploma in Reflexology and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement).

She is available from 9 am to 4 pm in Health, Wellbeing and Development (Community Services) and bookings can be made on extn 44223, and from 5 pm to 9 pm in the Fitness Centre, bookings on 9770 1495.

*Costs are:

  • 1 Hour: $45 (student)/ $50 (private)
  • 1/2 hour: $25 (student)/ $30 (private)
  • Under 1/2 hour: $1 per minute (Minimum 10 minutes)

2007 Performing Arts calendar

Subscriptions are now on sale for the 2007 Monash University Academy of Performing Arts theatre season. Staff receive discounts when purchasing subscription packages. The 2007 Performing Arts program includes the following productions:

  • The Leaping Loonies Crate Show (Marguerite Pepper Productions) 11-14 April
