Postgraduate Studies Centre facilitiesThe Postgraduate Studies Centre provides facilities and services to all postgraduate students including those undertaking research and coursework studies as well as honours students from any Monash campus. As well as providing facilities and services to students the centre is a place where students from all faculties can meet, share ideas about their research, and study and support each other. It is also a venue for meetings and seminars relating to research and postgraduate study. ComputersA number of PC computers will be available for general use in Room103. A wireless network operates within the Centre on all levels. Emergency EvacuationEmergency evacuation procedures are displayed next to the fire control panel in the entrance hallway.
ExitsPlease familiarise yourself when entering the building of the exit signs. KitchenA well equipped kitchen is located at the end of the hallway towards the back of Struan. The kitchen is equipped with cooking facilities, microwave, jug and fridge. Tea, coffee and milk are also available. There is an expectation that students using the kitchen facilities will leave them clean and tidy. LockersA limited number of lockers, located in Room S1.03, are available to all Centre users. You are required to use your own padlock. PhotocopyingThere are no photocopying facilities in the centre. If you need to use a photocopier you will need to visit your department or the Library. Registration and Security AccessThe facilities and services at the Struan Postgraduate Centre are available to all currently enrolled Monash postgraduate (coursework and research) and honours students. For access to the Struan Postgraduate Centre, please refer http://www.its.monash.edu.au/students/labs/swipe/index.html Safety and SecurityThe campus has a 24 hour security presence. If you have any safety or security concerns, or require an after hours escort from the centre to your vehicle or around campus, please contact extn 44318 directly. Seminar/Meeting RoomA seminar/meeting room (RS1.15), capable of seating up to 20 people, in the basement is available for meetings and seminars. If you would like to use this room please make a booking by emailing Melinda Cafarella or telephone extn 44396 during office hours. Student LoungeThe student lounge is a place for both informal social gatherings and formal presentations or DVD replays for small groups. Students have access to a plasma screen, which can also be connected to a computer, and DVD player and direct access to the adjacent kitchen facilities. SmokingAs with all university buildings, the non-smoking rule must be respected at all times. Smoking outside the building in the vicinity of the exits is also prohibited under the university’s occupational health and safety code. Swipe Card AccessThe Centre’s entry and exit door at the front of the building is open between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm. User will, however, need swipe card access during these hours to enter Room S1.03, the general access study area. If you wish to use the facilities outside normal business hours you will also need to request after hours access. TelephonesThe telephones in the centre have limited access. You may use them to dial internal numbers, emergency 000, University emergency 333 and some 1300 numbers linked to popular phone cards.
