Monash Peninsula Early Childhood Centre

9 July, 2007 update

A message from Professor Sue Willis
Dean, Faculty of Education

It is with great pleasure that I am to announce that the new early childhood service is on track to commence at the beginning of second semester 2007.  We are now only awaiting an inspection from the Department of Health Services (DHS) for licensing which involves standard processes, such as equipment checks and soil tests.  Subject to their prompt attention to our request, we should be opening on 23 July.

We have appointed Jo Hansen as the Director of the Centre.  Jo is an experienced children’s service director, has worked in early intervention, was a senior policy advisor for DHS and has been a lecturer in the Faculty of Education on a part time basis for many years.  Jo brings a wealth of experience and is available if you have any questions regarding the new service.  Jo will be sending out enrolment packs shortly and will be inviting people to enrol their child(ren).

The Faculty of Education is very proud to be managing the centre, and to be able to offer an innovative educational program to children.  We have been very busy purchasing new equipment, refurbishing old equipment and facilities, painting the building, attending to the gardens, putting in place a management structure, appointing new staff, organising policies and procedures, and developing an exciting educational and research program.

Our academic staff will support the teaching team, working with them to provide the latest educational programs in the Arts, science, technology and literacy. In the short term, we will be working hard to ensure children settle well into the new program and then over time, help the children and parents to engage with all the new possibilities that a centre linked to a faculty of education can offer.

It is proposed to hold an information session at the Centre at 5 pm on Friday, 13 July 2007.  We hope you will be able to join us.

We thank you for your patience but we are confident that the work we have put in to the redevelopment of the Centre will result in an excellent ongoing service for your family. The telephone number for the centre is 9904 4124 so please feel free to call that number if you need any further information.

Yours sincerely

Professor Sue Willi
