Surfin' @ Peninsula

Six new state-of-the-art computers with slim line monitors are available for use by students and staff in a new internet cafe opened this week.

The cafe, located in the student lounge, is a joint venture between Information Technology Services, MONSU, Leading Solutions and Hewlett Packard who provided the computers.

The cafe provides students with an easy going environment for them to access email  and other web based services when campus labs are being utilised for classes or assignments. The internet cafe has a distinct 'coastal' feel with carrels designed specifically to represent the campus's proximity to the beach.

The PCs in the cafe are as secure as a kiosk with students still required to use a username and Authcate password for access.

Mr Peter Hughes, MONSU Acting General Manager, Ms Kim Jones from Hewlett Packard, Mr Alan McMeekin, ITS Executive Director, Ms Sandra Motari from Leading Solutions, and Peninsula Student President Mr Colin Wolfe officially open the new cafe.

An Easter treat

Staff and students at MUCAPS got a pleasant surprise when they fronted up to the centre this week.

A weekend visitor had left an Easter message and some goodies. No one is quite sure how the mystery visitor got access to the building but everyone is happy that he/she did.
