Farewell to Leisa McGuinness
Leisa will remain at the university and will be taking up the position of School Manager in IT at the Clayton campus. Leisa started at Peninsula in Campus Administration later taking on the Student Residences as well as undertaking the role of personal assistant to then campus director Mr John White. She joined the Peninsula School of Computing and Information Technology in March 1999. A farewell afternoon tea for Leisa will be held on Friday 7 October (TBC) in the campus Conference room (C1.02). Anyone who would like to attend or contribute to a gift, should contact Carmen Maestri on extn 44287. The campus wishes Leisa all the best in her new role.
University Council electionsIn accordance with Monash University Statutes 9.1 and 9.2, nomination of candidates for the election of one professorial and one general staff member of Council are invited. Professorial memberThose eligible to stand for election are members of the teaching staff of the University appointed by the Council with the rank of professor, other than a non-teaching professor, an associate professor, a clinical associate professor, an emeritus professor, a visiting professor, an honorary professor or an adjunct professor. General staff memberThose eligible to stand for
election are members of the general staff, holding either a full-time
appointment or a fractional appointment of not less than 0.4 and must have
held that appointment for a period of more than six months.
Change to parking restrictionsThe parking restrictions that are in place in the General (Blue) Permit parking areas during teaching periods do not apply during the semester two examination period and semester break. Restrictions still apply in metered and other areas. 'Free parking' signs will be displayed during this period, and students who do not have a parking permit are able to park in these areas. Normal restrictions in the General Permit areas will recommence on Monday, 27 February 2006. Campus recycling stations
The Peninsula campus now has four 240 litre wheelie bin and four 120 litre wheelie bin recycling stations around the campus. The recycling promotion program is coordinated by Green Office and Environmental Advisor Mark Boulet with financial help from the Director of Facilities and Services. The stations are clearly marked in three categories: general waste, paper and bottles and cans. Together with the indoor recycling bins located in the majority of buildings on campus, staff are asked to please make use of these stations as they are emptied on regular basis. What's on at the GJT'Something to Declare'The Actors for Refugee group is proud to present 'SOMETHING TO DECLARE': True stories of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia as compiled by Michael Gurr on Wednesday 5 October at 11am in the George Jenkins Theatre. Entry is by gold coin donation with all money raised being donated to the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre. The show features Annie Phelan, Don Bridges, John McTernan, Rebekah Stone and Kellie Jones and runs for about an hour. There will be opportunity for questions for any audience members wishing to know more. Feeding the Needy Charity ConcertThe Frankston Minister's Network together with Rotary has organised an evening of live entertainment on Saturday 15 October at the George Jenkins Theatre. A variety of talented singers and musicians have donated the time and talent to help raise money to feed the needy in the local area. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the Genesis Collection Shop, Shop 8 Clyde Street, Frankston between 9 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday, telephone 9770 0660. Security snippetsMore on Mil KeysThere has been a change to the format of the Mil Key Requisition form. The Monash logo has been updated and a new section has been added for 'Office Phone Number'. Staff are requested to please use the new form from now which can be downloaded from the web. Staff should also note that ALL persons who currently hold a mil key will need to re-apply for the key before the end of this year. Notification will be given at a later date. Community newsFrankston Housing and Community ConferenceThe Frankston City Council is hosting the first full day Housing and Community Conference on 19 October 2005 at the Frankston Arts Centre. The conference is designed to raise awareness of the range of issues surrounding homelessness including the social, physical and emotional disadvantages while investigating strategies to seek positive change. The conference is free and lunch will be provided but there are limited places. If you are interested in attending, please contact Lisa Saint-John at the Frankston Council on 9784 1851. Alcohol - Community Responses forumThe Frankston Drink Safe program together with the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Councils and Peninsula Health is holding a community forum to explore the range of community responses to alcohol misuse. The forum will be held on Thursday 20 October from 10 am to 3 pm a the Peninsula Community Theatre, Corner of Nepean Highway and Wilsons Road, Mornington. The forum is ideal for local community groups, venue operators and staff and the general community. Registrations close on Monday 10 October. To register contact Jillian Jones on 9784 1886.
