In response to numerous requests HR Services have received regarding the direct delivery of internal mail such as timesheets, casual contracts and recommendation to appoint, a new pick-up service for the Peninsula campus was introduced from Monday 10 September.

HR Services together with Facilities and Services, have come to an arrangement that internal mail will be picked up from the mail room on a daily basis and delivered directly to HR Services at Business Park, 710 Blackburn Road, Clayton.

This daily mail service will be collected at 9 am each morning from the campus mail room located in Building C and delivered directly to HR Services at Business Park.

Please note that any mail for HR Services should be clearly marked and placed in the allocated HR Services Box located in the campus mail room. HR Services mail placed with the normal internal mail will still reach our office however will take longer as it must go via the Clayton campus mail centre.

If you have any queries, contact Kate Warner on extn 44110 at Peninsula campus or Sue Powell, Administrative Officer, HR Services on extn 56969.

Shiatsu therapy

Shiatsu practitioner Kim Wade will be available on campus offering Shiatsu treatments for relaxation and well being commencing Monday 10 September and fortnightly thereafter.

Shiatsu literally means 'finger pressure'. It was developed in Japan as a harmonising therapy to promote health and well being and has its origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It incorporates the use of a range of techniques to apply pressure over various parts of the body to effect a therapeutic result. The pressure used can be firm or light, using fingers, thumbs, feet, elbows, knees or palms.

The emphasis of Shiatsu is to reinforce or re-establish the body’s ability to function harmoniously and stimulate the immune system to protest itself against disease. The aim is to not only alleviate the immediate problem but to determine and treat the cause. Shiatsu reduces or eliminates restrictions which impede circulation and give rise to muscular tension, stress and blood stagnation and it reinforces those parts and activities of the body left deficient, or undernourished, by blood and energy.

If the circulation of Qi (energy) within the body is impaired or stagnated because of stress, illness, injury or poor habits, working on the meridians, points and areas that are deficient or restricted can reactivate the flow of Qi. A disorder of any part of the body will have effects throughout the person and for this reason it is important to treat the whole body. This explains why the Shiatsu practitioner may spend time on areas of the body that do not seem related to the problem.

Shiatsu is conducted on a futon on the floor with the receiver remaining fully dressed. Therefore loose and comfortable clothing is preferred.

Retail cost of a Shiatsu treatment is $60 per hour but Kim will be charging $40 (staff) and $35 (students) for one hour and $25 (staff) and $20 (students) for half an hour. A non-refundable deposit of $10 will be required at the time of booking.

Appointments can be made at Community Services on extn 44223.
