News about campus

A Building

Stage two of building A is due for completion on 8 February. This stage involved developments on level 4 including a new, high-tech, 128 seat lecture theatre (A4.16), a conference room, office space for Arts, and Maths and Science areas for Education.

Tenders are currently being sought for stage three, which involves the completion of the level four Arts area, with the design planning for stage four, the completion of Arts and Education spaces on level two, also about to commence.

New student village

Plans have been finalised for the new student village, which will be located around the edge of the oval between the Student Union Building and the current Bloom Street residences.

The four, 10 bedroom units will go to tender this week with building expected to start in early March.

Monash lectures online

Expressions of interest are still being sought from staff wishing to be involved in the lectures online at the campus.

Monash Lectures Online involve the automatic audio recording of all lectures in a specified subject with the recording then available within minutes of the conclusion of the lecture from the Monash Lectures Online website. Students use their authcate passwords to access the material.

Lecture theatres F1.01 and A4.16 have the necessary technology to facilitate lectures online, and staff scheduled to teach in these theatres and wishing to utilise the technology should contact campus manager, Jill McLachlan on extn 44339 by 16 February at the very latest.

Condition audit

Facilities and Services Division has commenced a condition audit of buildings at the Peninsula campus. The aim of the audit is to develop a comprehensive budget plan to cover cyclic and capital replacement maintenance for the campus.

Part of the audit involves a detailed survey of all buildings on the campus (excluding student housing), paying particular attention to building fabrics, services and infrastructure/grounds.

Mr Andrew Dalzotto, from SSL Education Services, has been contracted to undertake the audit. He will be located at Peninsula campus for the next four to five weeks during which time he will be inspecting all buildings, both inside and out.

Buildings will be visited in the following order:

1. B Building
2. C Building
3. D Building
4. E Building
5. F Building
6. G Building
7. Library
8. H building (MUCAPS)
9. Union Building
10. Struan
11. Child Care Centre
12. Miscellaneous Buildings (Portables, Workshop)

Building A will be inspected following the completion of the work currently being undertaken.

Andrew has permission to access all parts of the campus and will be carrying official identification with him at all times. He will endeavour to cause as little disruption as possible to all those using the buildings during his inspection. Please assist him in this process as the outcomes of this audit will be of great benefit to the campus.

New campus manager

New campus manager Ms Jill McLachlan is keen to hear from anyone who has ideas that would be of benefit to the whole campus. Jill can be contacted on extn 44339 or email jill.mclachlan@adm.monash.edu.au

Computer trolley upgrades

At the completion of summer semester the computer trolleys in F1.01, A4.03 and A2.38 will be removed from these theatres and sent to Clayton for refurbishment and the installation of new computers.

While every attempt will be made to have the refurbishment completed by the beginning of semester on Monday 26 February, there is no guarantee that these computers will be returned by that date.

Lecturers scheduled to teach in these areas and who generally rely on powerpoint presentations should bear this in mind and be prepared to use alternative delivery methods such as overhead transparencies.

The upgrade will not impact on the delivery of Lectures Online.

Women's networking group

The next meeting of the Women's Networking and Support Group will be held on Thursday, 15 February in C1.02 (BYO lunch).

Kay Gardner will be speaking to the group about the two areas she manages - Equal Opportunity and Employment Equity, and Student Equity and Access. Kay will provide an overview and will also speak about sexual harassment in the workplace.

For those you are keen to join this group, contact Helen Dunne on
extn 44338.
