Success for Network Computing tutors

Nine tutors from the School of Network Computing were successful in
obtaining the Faculty of Information Technology Certificate of Tutor Development for which the inaugural presentation ceremony was held recently.

The Faculty of Information Technology sees the program and the certification process as a way of ensuring a consistent standard for tutors and a consistent quality of tutor support for students across all degrees within the faculty, while allowing a greater flexibility in employment of tutors across the schools.

The semester long program included workshops that covered areas such as expectations and responsibilities of tutors and students, handling difficult situations, motivating students, plagiarism, assessment and evaluation, and areas of concern raised by the tutors. As well as the workshops participants completed of a number of items of assessment including a reflective process of self evaluation.

The program was designed and run by the FLITE Centre (Facilitated Learning for Information Technology). The centre also organised the Award Ceremony.

The successful tutors (pictured below with Professor John Rosenberg, Dean of IT, and Dr Kaya Prpic, FLITE Centre lecturer) were Sunny Avdihodzic, Ben Llewellyn, Craig MacDonald, Adrian Ryan, Paulo Tam, Chu Tiong Yeoh, Jackie Low and in absentia Desmond Tay and Vincent Lee.
