Open Day
A picture is worth a thousands words.
 |
The day started off a little wet but the weather
didn't stop the visitors, with 2400 people attending Open Day on
Saturday. |
 |
Balloons added to the atmosphere in the Faculty of
Business and Economics. |
 |
While the Faculty of Education foyer on
level 3 of A building was overflowing, some younger prospective
students were able to get some hands on experience in the Studio Arts
labs. |
 |
 |
The Open Day robot returned for a repeat
performance and was a hit with all age groups. |
 |
 |
 |
| There was fun for young and . . . well
not old but older. |
 |
Visitors felt safe at the campus with the
ambos providing CPR demonstrations and nursing students testing
blood glucose levels. |

Artists in black

Making everyday objects, such as these rolling pins, into something
extraordinary is just part of the collective artistic work of Refluxus.
Consisting of four artists including Geraldine Burke from the Faculty
of Education (pictured far right), the group challenges
the notion of creating artwork in isolation, and draws inspiration from
the Surrealist and Fluxus movements, where joint endeavour and discussion
takes a playful approach to media and concepts.
The
team, including (from l-r) Heather Shimmen, a staff member in the Faculty
of Art and Design, Pamela Irving, Maria Luisa Nardella and Geraldine
Burke, is inspired by concepts and starting points such as
automatic suggestions, chance encounters, found objects and newsworthy
events.
From an individual inspiration base each participant brings their own
creative ideas to the group to develop unique, collaborative work..
Refluxus have been working together since 1996 and have recently exhibited
their work at the Bendigo Art Gallery. The Refluxus exhibition can
currently be seen at the Maroondah Gallery in Ringwood.
