Research lab opened at PeninsulaThe Dean of Science Professor Rob Norris recently opened the new research laboratory located on the second floor of G building. The $160,000 facility consists of state of the art facilities for analytical research in the health sciences and will act as a research space for staff and postgraduate students. It is also hoped that the space will support a range of collaborative working arrangements. Mr Tom Jeavons and Dr Wayne Sturrock from the School of Applied Sciences are already using the facility for research projects. Tom is undertaking joint research with Associate Professor Martin Hooper at Gippsland campus into the implications of fungal contamination in homes and its impact on asthma. Wayne is carrying out collaborative diabetes research with the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre looking at whether melatonin has a protective impact on the kidneys of people with diabetes.
