29 years' service to the Library

Judy Sheehan is retiring after 29 years' service at the Peninsula Library.

Peninsula Library staff invite you to attend a farewell afternoon tea to celebrate Judy’s contribution to the Library and to the Peninsula campus.

When:             Thursday 29 May 2003
Time:              3 pm – 4 pm
Where:           Peninsula Library Staff room, level 1, building L

RSVP by 23 May to Judy Hopley, on extn 44280.

Contributions towards a gift can be sent to Judy Hopley at the Peninsula Library.

Putting your best foot forward

Occupational Health Safety & Environment (OHSE) and Monash Sport are again holding their annual campus walks for staff with the Peninsula one scheduled for Tuesday 20 May.

These walks are part of the OHSE health promotion program, which encourages staff to lead a healthy life style. This year all participants have the chance to win a pair of Adidas training shoes personally fitted by an Adidas fitting specialist.

Participants should end up feeling fitter and may even be fortunate enough to win a free pair of Adidas training shoes (there are also lots of other spot prizes to win too).

  • Venue Meet at the Fitness Centre, opposite the student union reception desk

The walk will be about 2.5 kms and will take about 30 minutes, with a light healthy lunch for all participants at the end.

The draw for the training shoes will take place after the Clayton walk so participants from all campuses will have the opportunity to win the major prize. All participants will receive some valuable health information on forming your own walking groups, safe walking etc.

If you are have not exercised recently or have a serious medical condition you should first check with your doctor before joining us for the walk.

Business & Economics seminars

The Faculty of Business and Economics May research seminar will be presented by Associate Professor Helen De Cieri on 'Publications – Submissions and Strategy'.

Associate Professor Helen De Cieri is the past Editor of the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources (1996-2002) and has been an editorial board member or ad hoc reviewer for several international refereed journals. The seminar will include recommendations for developing a publication strategy focusing on refereed journals, and suggestions for each stage of the submission process, to improve the chance of success.

The faculty's Contemporary Business Issues May seminar will be presented by Mr Les Terrill, Senior Project Manager at the Victorian Government’s Small Business Development Corporation. The title of the seminar is 'Small Business in the Global Marketplace – Opportunities and Challenges'

Les is currently Senior Project Manager with special responsibility for international trade and franchising.  Previously Les held senior positions in sales and administration in a number of companies in Australia and the United Kingdom. Les will examine the risks and rewards for small exporters, the challenge of identifying overseas market opportunities, the difficulties inherent in cross cultural negotiation, research needs of small business exporters, and government support services for international engagement.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea

MONSU Catering will again generously support this year's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea for The Cancer Council Victoria on Thursday 22 May.

The morning tea will be held in the Upperdeck Cafe from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Take a minute or two out of your morning for a break and join with other staff and students for a cuppa for cancer. Tea, coffee, cake and biscuits will be provided for a gold coin donation.

The many talents of Monash staff

Dr Sonja Petrovic-Lazarevic from the Faculty of Business and Economics is holding a exhibition of her paintings, 'Mediterranean Breeze', at the Federation Gallery Cube 37 in Frankston from 3 June.

The exhibition will run until 22 June.
