A very special thank you

Lee Tierney and John would like to thank everyone for their kind words, flowers and gifts on Kelly Tierney’s passing, but most of all for just being there when we said goodbye. It meant so very much to us.

Bus Eco awards for academic excellence

Ten of the Faculty of Business and Economics’ high achieving students were presented with awards for excellence at a recent ceremony and dinner.

 The awards night, held at Peninsula campus, was attended by the
Chancellor, Mr Jerry Ellis, Dean of the faculty, Professor Gill Palmer and heads of departments as well as the event’s major sponsor BHP Steel Westernport represented by Hans Langendam.

Each year the awards are made possible by the sponsorship of industry leaders such as ANZ Banking Group, CPA Australia, Keys Trading International, the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council and White Cleland. This is the 13th annual awards night and most of the sponsors for the night have been generous supporters for all the events.
 
A great night was enjoyed by all including the award recipients, the sponsors, parents and staff.

The following awards were presented.

First and second year prizes

  • Ms Melissa Caspar, first year accounting, sponsored by CPA Australia

  • Ms Gorana Miljanic, first year management, sponsored by ANZ Banking Group

  • Ms Nannan An, first year international business, sponsored by White Cleland

  • Ms Donna Armstrong, second year accounting, sponsored by CPA Australia

  • Ms Vanthana Nolintha, second year management, sponsored by BHP Steel Westernport

  • Mr Byoung Chea, second year international business, sponsored by Keys Trading International

Third and fourth year prizes:

  • Ms Beth Arnold, third year accounting, sponsored by CPA Australia

  • Ms David Bourke, third year management, sponsored by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council

  • Ms Lisa Twyford, third year international business, sponsored by ANZ Banking Group

Careers in Nursing

Monash Student Employment and Careers (MONSEACS) at the Peninsula campus is running the inaugural 'Careers in Nursing' session on 1 May.

This event has been coordinated by Mary Gordon, Careers Counsellor at  MONSEACS Peninsula in conjunction with Joan Yalden, senior lecturer in the School of Nursing.

The event is similar to a Careers Fair, where representatives from hospitals and other health organisation can talk with the university's nursing students face to face.

Participants include St Vincent's Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital, St Vincent's & Mercy Private Hospital, South Eastern Private Hospital, Australian Nursing Federation, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Box  Hill Hospital.

These health representatives will provide some excellent information
for our final year Peninsula and Gippsland nursing students who will be applying for graduate year placements in July.

Work Life Family seminar

If you are a manager and would like to know more about the Work Life Family Strategy and how to apply it in the workplace, attend the next training session at Peninsula Campus.

WHEN: Thursday 8 May
TIME: 2 pm - 4 pm
VENUE: Building C, Room C1.02

Issues covered will include:

  • The rationale for a flexible work environment

  • Your obligations in relation to equity legislation

  • Policies like job share, fractional and part-time, compressed working hours and home based work

  • What constitutes a supportive work environment 

  • Case studies

Parent Information Exchange

The next meeting of the new Parent Information Exchange will be held at Clayton Campus:

WHEN: Tuesday 6 May
TIME: 1 pm - 2 pm
VENUE: Elizabeth Burchill Room (Building 68- Performing Arts Precinct)

Anne Stonehouse (BA Psychology, MA Child Psychology) will be our guest speaker and the topic is  'Navigating Childcare in 2003: expectations . . . yours, the childcare centre's and the child's'.

Easter raffle winners

The faculty of Business and Economics would like to thank all who supported the Relay for Life Easter raffle. The winners, drawn at 1.15 pm on Tuesday 15 April, were from first to fourth:

We also wish to thank all the staff at Business and Economics for their kind donations of the eggs and chocolates. The proceeds of close to $300 will go towards the Relay for Life.
