Vale Trudi Kentish

Long standing Teachers' College staff member Gertrude (Trudi) Kentish died recently aged 81.

Trudi joined the Frankston Teacher's College as one of the inaugural staff members in 1959 when the college had 108 students and 11 staff.

She was appointed vice principal of the College in 1970 and deputy director in 1979, a position she held until her retirement in 1981.

Trained at Melbourne Teachers' College and the University of Melbourne, Trudi taught at a range of primary schools as well as Ballarat and Geelong teachers' colleges before coming to Frankston.

Trudi was also a very active member of the local Soroptimist Club - an association of professional and business women devoted mainly to charity work.

The Mornington Peninsula Soroptimist club's  tribute said: "Trudi was never idle. She was alway busy with craftwork of some kind and she loved to cook, entertain and play cards".

Faculty challenge brings out the best

It was a hard fought battle that got stickier as the event went on, but the Faculty Challenge, held in the first week of semester, brought out the competitive spirit in the participants.

The heat added to the sticky nature of the jelly race. Winner- Campus Admin

The tug-of-war between IT and Campus Admin was tougher still. Winner: Campus Admin

Flexibility was the key to the limbo won by Amanda Orrill from the Education team.

On scooters desperately in need of a wheel alignment, the race around the Union building was won by Sue Schuwalow from the BusEco team

Winners are grinners: campus admin took out the faculty challenge on overall points.

The annual Student Survival Week will be held on campus next week.

The aim of the week is to provide students with the opportunity to access information, facilities and resources that are available to them as students of Monash and particularly Peninsula campus.

MONSU Peninsula has developed a week of educational and fun activities to help students, especially first-year students, focus their energies on matters that really concern them and issues that have arisen in the first few weeks of university.

The week is also timely in terms of HECS census dates and the opportunity for students to change or withdraw from units.

For further information, contact Chad Brooks at MONSU on extn 44217.

Authorised by the Office of the Campus Director - Peninsula

Contributions can be emailed to julie.ryan@adm.monash.edu.au by 5 PM Thursdays.
