Nursing celebrates research successes

The School of Nursing celebrated the recent research successes and the progress made in building research capacity over drinks and nibbles on Monday 30 August.

The School has been successful in receiving a number of major grants:

  • A grant from DHS,
  • An international Windemere Foundation grant to bring a scholar from Kings College, London to the Peninsula Campus,
  • An ARC linkage grant,
  • Several Nurses Board of Victoria grants, and
  • Monash Strategic grants.

Assoc Prof Tony Barnett, Head, School of Nursing, stated that “over the past three years the School has increased PhD enrolments from six in 2002, to its current level of 16, a number of whom are international students.”

The event was also attended by industry partners who played a role in the developments and collaborative research endeavours.

Assoc Prof Tony Barnett commented that “It was especially pleasing to have representatives from … Peninsula Hospice, Royal District Nursing Service and Peninsula Health, as well as representatives from Southern Health.”

The School of Nursing has also made significant progress in increasing the number of quality publications including authorship of four books in the last two years.

Seminar on accessible and printable resources in WebCT

This seminar will explore accessibility issues concerning the reading and printing of resources in WebCT. When providing online resources, designers need to consider how students will be accessing the information; by reading it online or by downloading and printing a hardcopy to read.

The seminar will describe methods for including PowerPoint slides, Word documents, web pages and printer-friendly documents.

Margot Schuhmacher from the e-learning team at the Higher Education Development Unit, CeLTS, will be leading the presentation. Margot also provides academic development and support for the WebCT environment.

Date: 8 September 2004
Time: 1-2 pm
Venue: E2.09, Peninsula Campus
