Digitising core reading material – information session

The Library now offers digitisation and storage of core reading material for flexible online access. Students can download or print these digitised materials from the Internet.

The university has adopted a policy to centralise the digitisation of copyright protected materials for educational purposes. This is to ensure compliance with the Copyright Act and the agreement made between the University and the Copyright Agency under Part VB of the Act.

The Library has established the digitisation centre at the Clayton campus. The digitisation centre scans books and journal articles and places the digital copies in a central repository for access by authorised users via the Internet. The library manages the record keeping required to ensure that there is no unintentional copyright infringement and to track the use of the digital copies made under the agreement.

To learn more about the digitisation service offered by the centre and how you may make use of its services, you are invited to attend a lunchtime presentation given by Andrew Harrison, the University Library’s Digitisation Officer.

Chickenpox prevention

Prevention of chickenpox is now available.

Complications from chickenpox are more likely in adults. The virus is
spread easily from person to person, usually by airborne droplets
produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or by contact from a chickenpox sore.

People with chickenpox are infectious for about two days before the onset of the rash and until the final sore has crusted over. Shingles can be a very painful complication later in life after an earlier chickenpox infection. Immunisation prevents this condition.

Now chickenpox can be prevented by immunisation. Arrange an
appointment to talk to one of Community Services doctors to see if this immunisation is for you.

For further information or to make an appointment, contact Monash Caulfield Health Service at Community Services, 7 Princes Avenue (opposite the Student Union building) on extn 32500.
