Awards for Academic Staff
The Team-Based Educational Development Award was won by staff from the faculty of Business and Economics and CeLTS who developed online teaching and learning materials for the business law unit. As part of the award the group has received a $15,000 grant which it intends to use in further developing the concepts explored in the online resources. The Distinguished Teaching Award was received by senior lecturer Mr. Paul Wellington for 30 yeas of teaching mechanical engineering. Mr. Wellington received $5,000 as part of his award, which he plans to use to attend a conference in the UK next year on engineering education. Career Start 2003
Seventy one students representing all disciplines and campuses took part in workshops on resume writing, identifying skills and abilities, psychometric testing, presentation and teamwork skills as well as interactive sessions on interview practice and assessment centre activities. The program ended with three graduates, Udarie (Caulfield) from Mercury Computing, Rowan Coxhead (Caulfield) from Ford Credit and Blair Hall (Caulfield/Clayton) from Holden giving students some great insights on 'how to get that job' and how the career path is not always clear. The main focus of the program was to expose the students to as many employers as possible and the response was excellent with twenty-four employer representatives participating. These included: Connell Wagner, Yallourn Energy, Grant Thornton, SHL, Victorian Public Service, ComputerPro, ColesMyer, ANZ, Expert Information Services, AXA, Michael Page International, WMC Resources, TMP Hudson, Pricewaterhouse Cooper and representatives from small/medium size enterprises. These high-profile companies in the graduate recruitment market provided real-life situations and input from their personal experiences in the graduate recruitment process. The seventy-one students will now be ready to start their careers when the next graduate recruitment season starts in 2004. Many of the above companies will also be participating in the Careers Fairs being held on the Clayton campus on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 March 2004. Mary Gordon and Marian Longmire from Monash University Careers and Employment would like to thank all staff who have recommended the program and for their assistance. Orientation Ceremony 2004
