Monash Sport

Le Tour de Monash -  every Wednesday - 1 July through to 19 July -  6:00pm.

Take on the tour, Monash style...

Le Tour de Monash is an interactive cycling experience through the famous French countryside – right here on campus at Monash Sport!


Cardio Box
Tuesdays and Thursdays -  7  July through to 30 July - 5:30 to 6:30pm

One way to warm up this winter!  Social boxing sessions are a great way to improve physical health and fitness while also developing overall body strength and assisting in weight loss.  Get active in a social environment, learn new skills (or build on existing ones) and feel great burning those calories!

Campus Walks

Every Tuesday and Thursday a staff member from Monash Sport takes a group of students and staff on a walk around the neighbourhood.  They meet at the BBQs on the common lawn at 1:05pm and walk for about 30 minutes.

Monash Games  - 16 and 17 July, 2009

Faculty vs Faculty, Department vs Department, Campus vs Campus, Students vs Staff.

The Monash Games is an opportunity for staff and students across all Victorian campuses of the university to play modified sports in a fun and friendly environment over two days.  Previously known as the Metro Games, the Monash Games are now in it's third year and offers a number of different sports and activities with an emphasis on getting involved and ‘having a go’. All skill levels are encouraged to take part from beginners to those that are advanced.

Monash Games present a great chance to represent your campus, meet new people and become involved in university life. If you are interested in participating, you can register now.

Chill Out Hub    3 to 7 August (week 3) , 12:00 to 1:00pm  Student Lounge, Building S, Level 2 – students only

A casual and relaxed space to hang out, play some cool games and mix with other students.  There will also be plenty of useful information and a chance to ask questions that you stumbled across in your first few weeks of semester.

SMART 

A free 4-week course (you can attend the full series or single sessions) to maximise your learning success using strategies, motivation, stress reduction and time management.

Lunchtime DVD Sessions

Students and staff are invited to get together at lunchtime to watch a short DVD of a seminar/session from the Happiness and its Causes Conference (Sydney 2008).  This is a great opportunity to get to know staff and students, learn more about happiness and get away from the cold!  Please BYO lunch.

Meditation

Daily sessions for quietening the mind.  Research shows that the practice of mindfulness meditation reduces anxiety and depression and improves health and wellbeing.  Mindfulness meditation has no religious affiliation, but is based on traditional meditation practices. The sessions are facilitated by Health, Wellbeing and Development psychologists who have been trained in the art of mindfulness meditation.

Cost:   Free to Monash students and staff
No need to book, just turn up.  Cushions and chairs are provided.

THRIVE@ Work

THRIVE © is a stress reduction program for Monash Staff. Its main focus is on the environmental, behavioural, physiological, cognitive and emotional factors which underpin stress and often lead to illness that can disrupt both work and personal life. Participants will learn some very useful life skills such as relaxation; worry control, values clarification, how to combat procrastination, assertiveness techniques and how to sleep better.

Caulfield Campus Singers
– fortnightly commencing 21 st July - All staff and students are most welcome.

Research has shown that community singing increases people’s sense of wellbeing and lowers their levels of stress……….. Who wouldn’t mind a bit of that?  You don’t have to be a skilled singer, but you will need a willingness to have a bit of fun.

Caulfield Book Club staff only

The Caulfield Book Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 12:15 pm for approximately one hour in H3.92.  A meeting is held early in the year to choose the books for discussion as well as asking for a volunteer to lead the discussion for each book.  The meeting dates and books for the remainder of the year are as follows:

Monquil     Quilting Group -   Meets once a month in Building H.   The group is currently making baby and toddler quilts for Berry Street Victoria’s foster care division.   The quilters are also involved in a continuing project making quilts for the residents of Mecwacare Nursing Homes.  If you can sew, have a sewing machine and are interested in joining the group please email Adeline Christie.
