Monash Marketplace for Victorian bushfire assistance
A new category for "Victorian bushfire assistance" has been added to
Monash Marketplace.
Monash Marketplace is available
through the my.monash portal.
Please use the new 'Victorian bushfire assistance' category if
you have been affected by or are assisting someone affected by the bushfires who are in need of goods or,
you would like to donate serviceable goods to someone affected by the bushfires.
Salvation Army require volunteers
The Salvation Army has two warehouses where donations are taken
as they must be sorted before they can be provided to Bushfire Victims.
Volunteers are needed to sort through a number of different items; clothes,
books, furniture and household goods. All volunteers would be appreciated
for their time and effort.
The warehouses are operating Mon-Sat.
Two shifts: 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm. Volunteers are asked to choose
a time and location suitable to them. Currently they need as many as
they can get during the week 9am-5pm.
The warehouse are located at:

St Vincents require volunteers
St Vincents - Rowville Centre urgently needs whatever time volunteers over
17 years of age can spare for sorting and packing donations during the hours
of 9-5pm Monday to Friday.
The Rowville Centre is located at:
Lot 7 Henderson Rd (Melway Ref 72 k10),
Enter from Kellets Rd at Stud Rd end.

Call centre volunteers for the Red Cross
Staff and students are invited to volunteer in a Melbourne-based call centre, taking calls from the public seeking to donate blood and /or make financial donations to the appeal through the Australian Red Cross.
The call centre is being operated by United Customer Management Solutions, who have offered their facilities at this time due to strong call volumes.
The key details are:
Location of Centre: Level 11, 452 Flinders Street Melbourne.
Operating Hours: 6 am to midnight. Volunteers can offer any amount of time
within these hours, whether it is 30 minutes, 2 hours, or more.
Call type: Data capture related to blood or financial donations. All calls are
tightly scripted and fairly easy to handle.

Animal welfare
Care of animals involved in the fires continues to be a critical need, for those wishing
to make donations or provide goods supporting animal care please contact the following

Staff salary donations
In response to the devastating bushfires across many parts of Victoria Monash staff can support the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund by donating funds directly from payroll payments under a Workplace Giving arrangement.
Workplace Giving provides immediate tax benefit at the time of deduction. The amount of donation will appear on your payment summary for taxation purposes. Further details on Workplace Giving can be obtained from the ATO web site at http://www.ato.gov.au/businesses/
Payroll deductions can be spread over the next three pays - Pay days 26 February 12 March and 26 March 2009. Donations can be requested via an on-line form on the HR Division website. The on-line Workplace Giving arrangements will be available from today until Friday 27 February 2009.
Casual and sessional staff may also request a donation however the deduction will not occur if there are insufficient payments in the fortnight designated to permit the deduction of the donation.
Goods and clothing donations
For those wishing to make donations of goods or clothing to charities, please drop off at your nearest store and check what is most of need. To find the nearest St Vincent's store location go to their website.
Fundraising events
On Friday 13 February many retailers will be donating profits to the Relief Fund, and at each campus staff are organising fundraising morning teas. Clayton staff who wish to organise a morning tea can contact Dean Hamood (ext 55761) for supplies, or come to the Clayton campus centre.

Direct donations
Staff can also use direct donation options via the Red Cross website. In addition dierct donations are welcomed at the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund website.
Staff volunteering
The Premier has requested all employers to grant leave to qualified CFA volunteers to assist with the fires across the State. Any Monash staff member who is a qualified CFA volunteer and is required by your CFA unit, please contact your Monash supervisor to advise that you are required for CFA duties. Staff directly involved with CFA activities will be granted special paid leave for the duration of the current fire emergency.
Cash donations
For those staff and students wishing to make a cash donation, the Victorian and Federal Governments have launched the 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund in partnership with the Red Cross. If you would like to make a donation to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund, please go to www.redcross.org.au or call the toll free number 1800 811 700.
In addition, all major banks are taking donations on behalf of the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund. You can also donate by going to any branch of the major banks, or going online to your bank and follow the instructions.
Blood donations
The Red Cross is no longer calling for urgent donations of blood and is now asking donors to meet what will be an ongoing need in comings weeks and months. To find your closest Red Cross Blood Centre, please go to the Australian Red Cross blood service website.
The Red Cross mobile Blood Bank will be at the Clayton campus on 4, 5 and 6 March and so Clayton staff are encouraged to wait and come at this time, to stagger the availability of blood over a longer period of time.
