Mr Jon Faine (BA 1979, LLB 1981)
Melbourne radio presenter

Jon Faine

After graduating from Monash University, Jon Faine began his professional career as a solicitor at the Melbourne legal firms Barker Harty and Co. (1981-82) and Holding Redlich & Co. (1983-84), and then the Fitzroy Legal Service (1984-87).

Mr Faine entered radio broadcasting in 1989 as the producer and presenter of ABC Radio National's Law Report.

After adapting to the rigours of live radio, he began a stint with 3LO working on their morning and afternoon programs.

As his interest in topics widened, so did his choice of media. In television he worked on ABC TV's 'Investigators', 'First Edition' and 'Wise Up'.

Since 1997, Mr Faine has hosted the morning program on ABC Radio 774. He is known for his ability to vigorously debate and foster conversation on politics, law, arts or sports and enjoys high ratings, peaking in September 2002, when he was found to be Victoria's top talk-show host (AC Nielsen survey). In 2003, he received the ABC Local Radio 'Broadcaster of the Year' award.

In 2008, Jon and his son Jack drove from Melbourne to London on a six month overland adventure. Their trip will be covered in a soon-to-be released publication by ABC Books.

Mr Faine has also worked on scripts for a number of TV and feature films and relaxes by working on old cars in his spare time.
