Graduates get Line Honours with winning yacht Skandia

Monash graduates Ross Laidlaw and John Bertrand AM celebrated their win with Skandia in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 2003. Super-maxi yacht Skandia was first to cross the finish line on 29 December after two days and fifteen hours at sea.

Ross Laidlaw graduated from Monash University in 1982 with an economics degree. He is now the CEO of Skandia in Australia – an international long-term savings company with operations in over 20 markets.

Skandia's participation in sailing has enabled Ross to meet world champion yachtsman and prominent Monash alumnus, John Bertrand AM (Bachelor of Engineering 1970).

"Working with Skandia has provided me with a number of unique opportunities including a global funds management role at the Head Office in Stockholm, Sweden," said Laidlaw. "Skandia's involvement in the sailing community is providing many new experiences that I never envisioned as a fresh young graduate."
