Ng Kah MingMalaysian born musician Dr Ng Kah Ming's rising popularity in Europe and America has, by association, propelled his country of birth into prominence on the world map. A harpsichordist and conductor, involved in researching, directing and performing Baroque and Renaissance music, Dr Ng is also the course co-ordinator and lecturer in Early Music Studies at the Faculty of Music, Oxford University.
Later, at Keble College, Oxford, he gained his D.Phil. (equivalent to Oxford University's Ph.D.) for his doctoral research in basso continuo realisation. Nevertheless, it was the music ensemble Charivari Agreable that has been Dr Ng's focus since 1993. His German wife Susanne Heinrich, and fellow music specialist Lynda Sayce from England are the two co-founders of his group. The award-winning ensemble Charivari Agreable has just released its 11th CD, entitled 'Modus Phantasticus' on the Signum Records label. This recording of music by composers including Bach, Telemann, Pachelbel, Böhm, Funck and Schütz has recently been featured on Melbourne radio station 3MBS. Touring to play at concerts and festivals has led Dr Ng to many parts of Europe and America. The last time he performed in Malaysia was in 2002 at the Alliance Française, Kuala Lumpur. |
