Six of the 20 outstanding women inducted onto the Victorian Honour Roll of Women this year are members of the Monash University community.
Victorian Minister for Women’s Affairs Heidi Victoria announced the 2013 inductees at a special ceremony on 13 March.
Ms Victoria said the Victorian Honour Roll of Women recognised women whose lives and careers had significantly shaped our communities for the benefit of all Victorians.
“…It is wonderful to honour these women who have contributed in a variety of ways, including strengthening our rural and regional communities, establishing valuable organisations and delivering successful services,” Ms Victoria said.
Among those recognised include Monash Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and DVC (Research) Professor Edwina Cornish. Professor Cornish was honoured for being a pioneer in the biotechnology industry and her transformational leadership at the University.
Mrs Janet Michelmore AO (BA 1975, DipEd 1976), who established the Jean Hailes women’s health service, was honoured for her work in preventative health care and outstanding contribution to women’s health and wellbeing.
Alumna Dr Catherine Crock (MBBS 1981) (pictured) was recognised for her role in the development and implementation of patient-centred care including being responsible for expanding the role of the arts in health education and training.

The Victorian Honour Roll of Women began in 2001. Each year, the Roll acknowledges and pays tribute to women from across Victoria who have succeeded through vision, leadership, commitment and hard work. It is a reminder of the significant contribution women have made to Victoria.
The 2013 inductees join 498 other women who have previously been inducted onto the Honour Roll.
