Silicon Valley internships for top Monash IT students

Five of the highest undergraduate achievers in Information Technology at Monash University have been selected to undertake an overseas internship with Macromedia Inc. Silicon Valley. The students will work in an IT role for three months, being mentored by senior staff at Macromedia. The experience will give the students a taste of the international ICT industry, what it really takes to be the world’s best, and will assist them in their aim to become leaders in the industry.

Acting Dean, Professor Gopal Gupta explains, “As an employee of the company, the second year students will be able to put theory into practice and obtain that invaluable ‘on the job’ knowledge essential for a career in IT. We are very pleased to be working on the scheme for a second year with Alan Ramadan, Member of the Board of Directors, Macromedia Inc. Silicon Valley, and I am grateful for the support of Monash alumni.”

The host company, Macromedia, will pay the students a stipend for the work performed. Funding grants for travel and living expenses have also been provided by the Faculty of Information Technology and Monash Abroad.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Larkins and Monash alumni will host a joint Monash University Alumni and Internship dinner to be held in February 2004. The event will celebrate the ongoing connection between Monash University and Macromedia and also celebrate and support the vital connection Monash University maintains with its graduates living and working in the Valley.
