IT students awarded for alumni sponsored project

A group of Monash software engineering students were awarded prizes for their work on an industry-based project backed by IBM Marketing Manager and Monash graduate Jack Verdins (BSc).

Mr Verdins, Marketing Manager, specialising in middleware software, IBM Asia Pacific, sponsored a project undertaken by final year Software Engineering students Hayley Cronin, Zeaner Haider, Adam Koh and Daniel Rowley.

Using the facilities of the recently established Monash University Software Engineering Labs (MUSE) the students developed a demonstration showcasing the features of the IBM WebSphere development platform.

"The benefit to IBM was the opportunity to utilise the demonstration that the students developed." Mr Verdins explained. "From a personal viewpoint it was good for me to have the opportunity to work with the next generation of IT professionals and to encourage them in our discussion together."

Mr Verdins presented cheques to the successful students at a special awards ceremony held in April 2003.
