Distinguished Alumni Service Award

Sue Renkin (MBA 1995), managing director of her own consulting company and former CEO of Open Family Australia, has supported Monash as a volunteer for many years.

In addition to advising senior members within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences as a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee, Ms Renkin is the current Chairman of Green Chemical Futures and the Victorian Centre for Sustainable Chemical Manufacturing.

Ms Renkin has held the position of Chairman of Monash Centre for Synchrotron Science, which over time has evolved into Monash Biomedical Imaging Institute, and Chairman of Monash Centre for Green Chemistry. She was also on the advisory committee for the MBA Program.

Ms Renkin has been extensively involved in government lobbying. She has been a community representative on the Australian Bravery Decorations Council since 2001. She is also an Ambassador for the Telstra Business Women's Awards and for the past two years has been Chief Judge for Victoria.

Ms Renkin uses these roles to enhance her affiliations between Monash University and the broader not for profit community.

Ms Renkin has made a significant contribution to the Australian community through her humanitarian service. In addition to her former role at Open Family Australia, she is a current non-executive Director for General Practice Victoria, Northern Health and GMHBA Insurance.

She is also the Chair of the Greater Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust. She has held previous board positions at the Australian Private Hospitals Association, St John Ambulance, and the Shelford Anglican Girls’ School.

Ms Renkin is praised for her work in coaching and mentoring young executives and academics. In 1997 she was recognised for her passionate leadership with a Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year award in the corporate category.
