Antarctic adventurer

Joe Johnson

Arts graduate Joe Johnson (BA, MA) has experienced being trapped in ice for over a month and endured some of the coldest temperatures ever recorded at sea-level. His research and involvement with Antarctica has earned him the Australian Antarctic Medal and more recently, the position of Chair of the Australian Antarctic Names and Medals committee. <full story>

Online database access for alumni

Monash alumni around the world will be able to access Proquest online databases as part of a six-month trial commencing mid-July. The databases offer full-text research materials from a broad range of disciplines including business, law, sciences, medicine, social sciences, education, pharmacy and engineering. <more info>

Nation's top honour for Monash graduate

Alexander Downer to launch Monash Institute for the Study of Global Movements, Melbourne

Monash University Institute for the Study of Global Movements will be launched by The Hon. Alexander Downer MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs. Guest speakers include Bob Rowthorn (Cambridge), ethicist Peter Singer (Princeton) and Tan Sri Musa bin Hitam, former Deputy Prime Minister, Malaysia. <more info>

Annual Appeal Phonathon

Over two weekends in June, Monash students telephoned over 2,000 Monash graduates asking for donations to the University. The areas of need highlighted were libraries, equity-based scholarships and research. In addition to some interesting conversations, many generous gifts were made or pledged over the phone.
