1.1 ELECTION 2001: MONASH CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION ON HIGHER EDUCATION

Monash has called upon the winner of the forthcoming Australian federal election to urgently strengthen the higher education system, identifying five key 'gap' issues that the next government must address. For more information, see: http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/monmemo/memo39_01/item07.html

1.2 MONASH UNIVERSITY MEDICAL FOUNDATION LAUNCHED

Medical ethics and health sciences education will be among the key areas to benefit from the recently established Monash University Medical Foundation, launched last month by the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, in the Grand Ballroom of the Rippon Lea Estate. 1.3 MONASH RESEARCHERS REVEAL VEGETABLE LINK TO DIABETES

Researchers at Monash University and the International Diabetes Institute in Melbourne may be close to discovering what causes Type 1 (insulin-dependent diabetes) - one of the most serious childhood illnesses affecting more than four million children worldwide. 1.4 VICTORIAN COLLEGE OF PHARMACY'S 'PHARMACE' WEBSITE PROGRAM LAUNCH

The Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Mr Alan Griffith MP, launched a new addition to the PharmaCe website recently. The website is an initiative by the College responding to the increasing number of health professionals such as doctors, nurses, dentists, paramedics and pharmacists using the internet to keep pace with changes in the health care sector in areas such as drug therapies, wound care, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and pharmacotherapy. Just launched is the 'Improving Oral Health for Older People - Online Program. 1.5 BASKETBALL'S HIGH HOOPS AT MONASH SOUTH AFRICA

The newly formed Monash South Africa basketball team has scored a victory in its first outing. The team which consists of seven male and seven female students, is the first official sports team at the campus. The winning match was played against Ceda City Campus. 2.1 ONLINE - LISTEN TO AL RAMADAN'S LEADING IDEAS FORUM PRESENTATION

2.2 WORKSHOP, 'TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT'

This is a two-day workshop presented by the Institute of Transport Studies, a joint venture between Australia's leading transport groups at Monash University and the University of Sydney, Nov 8-9, at Monash Malaysia, Bandar Sunway. 2.3 CONFERENCE: 'A NEW GIRL ORDER'

Jointly presented by Monash, King's College London and the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies, this conference aims to explore a wide range of issues concerning young women in the new century. 2.4 HONG KONG ALUMNI RECEPTION

2.6 LEADING IDEAS FORUM, DATO' M YEOH, 'ASIA IN TRANSITION'

What are the implications for Asia of the September 11 tragedy? Monash alumnus Dato' Michael Yeoh, CEO of the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI), will examine this and other factors driving the social, political and economic transformation of Asia at November's Monash Malaysia Leading Ideas Forum in KL. 2.7 MONASH BLUES PRESENTATION DINNER

2.8 SEMINAR, CONCRETE PRACTICE CODES IN MALAYSIA AFTER 2006

When the UK adopts Eurocode EC2 for the construction industry, it will greatly affect the construction industry in Malaysia after 2006. 3.3 2002 MONASH GIPPSLAND ALUMNI AND STAFF REUNION

The reunion will embrace graduates from the three major stages of Monash Gippsland's history: Yallourn Technical School/College, 1928-1968; Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, 1968-1990; and Monash University, 1990 to today. 5.1 NEW MASTER OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

The Master of Business Management is designed for candidates who wish to gain knowledge in general business management principles and their application both locally and globally. 5.2 PELS: A NEW PATHWAY TO POSTGRADUATE STUDY

The introduction of the national Postgraduate Education Loan Scheme (PELS) makes it even easier to access postgraduate study at Monash. The PELS scheme provides an interest-free loan facility for eligible Australian citizens and permanent residents who commence fee-paying postgraduate coursework award programs from from Jan 1 2002. 5.3 IT POSTGRADUATE INFORMATION SESSIONS

Want to enter the exciting world of IT? Already in the industry and want to move to a position of leadership?
