Message from the president

Dear alumni,

The first quarter of 2008 felt too short as we had several engaging events.

Australia Day, on 26 January, kicked off with sailing in Singapore waters on the 26-foot Impulse with everyone learning how to helm and handle the sails. The day ended with a traditional Aussie BBQ, plenty of meat and beer.

For Chinese New Year, we were tossing luck the 'Lohei' way as the messier the table, the better the luck for the year…it was messy! Several of us managed to get tickets for Dim Sum Dollies, a comedy play about the history of Singapore, and it was laughter all round.

Business Networking Night at Café Amigo on 21 February saw almost 40 alumni attending and cheering to the news that Singapore secured the Youth Olympics 2010. We had the honour of having alumnus Carol Yip (BEc(Hons) 1988), of AbacusforMoney, give us an insightful view of career planning.

Saturday 1 March was 'war' amongst alumni with paintball and go-karting, ending with ‘fighting’ over dinner.

We have started the 'Champion ur passion' series, where alumni are encouraged to champion their passions and use the MUAAS group on Facebook to broadcast and get alumni interested. We have commenced with sailing, paintball, fishing, running and hopefully Mountain trekking. I hope to get an interest group up attending local plays as they are well produced.

Monash Alumni Advisory Group will be having its 2nd Summit meeting on the 7–10 June. MUAAS welcomes alumni representatives from Australia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand.

On 9 June, a piece of history will be made when Monash celebrates its 50th Anniversary in Singapore. An event will be held at the Asian Civilisations Museum to celebrate this milestone. If you would like to attend, please register your interest via email. Alumnus and Monash University Chancellor Dr Alan Finkel AM (BE 1976, PhD 1981) will be the host to share with us his vision of Monash for the next 50 years.

AUIAC 2008 will see six Monash alumni as speakers and their synopsis can be viewed on www.auiac2008.org. Register via email with Monash University and you will get to enjoy the group discount for registration.

Live our passion, enjoy our passion, share our passion!
