Hong Kong alumni celebrate

November 2006

Monash alumni recently participated in a range of events in Hong Kong. The university's Hong Kong Alumni Association (MUHKAA) welcomed new members, and discussed ways to expand activities and strengthen networks among existing alumni and with Monash University.

More than 30 new graduates were welcomed into the alumni fold at a special pre-graduation reception at the Grand Hyatt, Hong Kong, on 11 November 2006. Monash University and MUHKAA co-hosted the annual event, which was attended by a record 180 guests.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Larkins addressed guests at the event. He talked about the importance of alumni as ambassadors of Monash in Australia and around the world, and emphasised the university's strong commitment to expanding its alumni services.

Professor Larkins also took the opportunity to meet members of the MUHKAA executive committee to talk about plans for future activities. Discussions highlighted the keen interest among alumni in mentoring and in activities that provide opportunities for Monash students and graduates to learn new skills and expand their knowledge.

On 12 November, MUHKAA welcomed 360 graduating students at the official Hong Kong ceremony. Association members greeted graduates with roses and introduced them to the association and its activities.

On 13 November, Australian Consul-General in Hong Kong Murray Cobban attended a lively business luncheon for senior Monash alumni, hosted by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
