In 2009, Monash Alumni Relations is piloting an alumni–student mentoring program. Mentors have a positive
impact on the lives of final-year Monash students as they plan their transition from university study to a professional career.
We are looking for enthusiastic alumni, based in Victoria, to mentor students, particularly in Environmental Science, Fine and Applied Arts and Information Technology.
The 2009 program will run throughout the academic year. It is intended that each mentor will develop a
one-on-one partnership with a student. Mentors will ideally have mentoring or management experience but not necessarily in one of the areas listed above. The mentor–mentee partnership should be developed on mutual respect, honesty,
encouraging feedback and a genuine interest to learn from each other.
This pilot mentoring program builds on the success of the program operated by Monash alumni for over ten years.
What do mentors (alumni) gain from the program?
Opportunities to re-engage with the Monash community
An insight into the latest education trends, graduates’ skills and their expectations of employers
A chance to use your communication and leadership skills and industry knowledge
The satisfaction of helping students to enhance their career development strategies
A new perspective on your own professional and personal experience
Introduction to a new network – the alumni and fellow mentors participating in the program
