Australia Day Honours 2005

Monash University congratulates the following alumni, staff and former staff who received awards in the Australia Day list this year.

AC (Companion in the Order of Australia)

Emeritus Professor Enid Campbell OBE

For service to legal scholarship and education, to raising debate in the field of constitutional law and to public law reform.

AO (Officer in the Order of Australia)

Dr Barry Perry (LLB(Hons) 1969)

For service to the community as ombudsman of Victoria, through encouraging the highest standards of integrity and accountability in public institutions.

Associate Professor Alison Street (MB,BS 1971)

For service to medicine, particularly in the field of haematology, and as a significant contributor to the management of congenital bleeding disorders and minimisation of transfusion transmitted infection.

AO (Military Division)

Rear Admiral Raydon Gates CSM RAN (MBA 1991)

For distinguished service as the inaugural commander of the Australian Defence College and as maritime commander Australia.

AM (Member in the Order of Australia)

Professor Warwick Anderson

For service to health and medical research through leadership roles with the NHMRC, to the development of medical science at Monash University, and to hypertension and renal physiology research.

Professor Stephen Cordner

For services to forensic medicine, particularly as a contributor to the development of forensic pathology in Australia and internationally.

Professor Garry Jennings (MB,BS 1969, MD 1986)

For service to medicine in the areas of cardiovascular research and public health, to the Baker Heart Research Institute and The Alfred Hospital, and to professional and health-related organisations.

Dr Helen Light (BA(Hons) 1971, PhD 1975)

For service to the community as director of the Jewish Museum of Australia, particularly through support for significant cultural exhibitions and community-based programs.

Professor Margaret O'Connor

For service to the development and establishment of palliative care services in Victoria.

Professor Richard Ruffin (MB,BS w/hons1970, MD 1984)

For service to respiratory medicine as a leading clinician, researcher, educator and mentor to colleagues.

OAM (Medal in the Order of Australia)

Cr John Brooke (BEd 1970)

For service to local government, to water resource management, to the accountancy profession and to education.

Mr Travis Brooks (student, FIT)

For service to sport as a gold medallist at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

Ms Vicki Cowling (GradDipChildPS)

For service to the community, particularly as an advocate for children of parents with mental illnesses.

Mr John Hodgetts (BA 1979)

For service to the community, particularly through the activities and musical programs of the Derwent Valley Concert Band.

Dr Che-Sam Lo

For services to community health in the field of clinical nutrition, and for services to the Chinese community.

Dr Tien Manh Nguyen (GradCertGPPsych 2003)

For service to the Vietnamese community in Australia and overseas, particularly as an advocate for refugees and refugee issues

Dr Bruce Rumbold (PhD 1971)

For service to the community in the fields of pastoral and palliative care, particularly as an educator.

Dr James Turner (GradDipFamMed 1995)

For service to medicine and to the Illawarra region as a general practitioner.

PSM (Public Service Medal)

Mr James Killaly (BJuris 1975, LLB 1977)

For outstanding public service in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and sustainable taxation compliance framework for large business and enhanced international taxation treaty arrangements.

Mr Stefan Kudilczak (BSpEd 1978)

For outstanding public service to the education and support of students with an intellectual disability and sustained service in leadership with the Australian Airforce Cadets.

Mr Bruce Mackenzie (BA 1967, DipEd 1968, BEd 1972, MEd 1975)

For outstanding public service to education, particularly through service to Holmesglen TAFE.
