The Alumni-Student Mentoring Program focuses on career and work/life mentoring. Its core aim is to strengthen the links between our graduates, industry and current students.

The current program is managed by the Monash Alumni Relations office. It builds on a successful program run by Monash alumni for more than 10 years.

How does it work?

Through the mentoring program, each mentor develops a one-on-one partnership with a student. Honesty, two-way feedback, respect and a genuine interest to learn from each other are vital to the program’s success.

The program focuses on career and work/life mentoring. The mentor acts as an advisor using his/her experience to guide students through discussion about career goals, the availability of networks and support, and workplace dynamics.

What does it involve?

Our office matches and supports mentors and mentees throughout the academic year. The mentor acts as an advisor and guide.

Areas typically covered during the program include career goals, the workplace environment, and the networks or support available to young employees. Mentors may also choose to stay in touch with their mentees after the official program.

The program includes the following stages:

  • Recruitment and orientation
  • Matching of mentors with mentees
  • Regular meetings between mentor and mentee (online, face to face and/or telephone)
  • Ongoing support and monitoring
  • Recognition of participants
  • Evaluation and closure
