Beyond the Margins: Contexts and complexities around the collection and display of outsider art

Description: This free panel discussion will explore the origins and definitions of 'outsider art'; the relationship of the outsider to the institution; and the contexts, complexities and challenges of collecting and exhibiting the work of outsider artists. Panelists include: Dr Anthony White, art history lecturer at the University of Melbourne; Glenn Barkley, co-curator of current Monash exhibition 'Without Borders: Outsider Art in an Antipodean Context'; Penelope Lee, The Cunningham Dax Collection; Tim McMonagle, contemporary artist; and Monica Syrette, curatorial assistant with the Grainger Museum.
