The magic of speech technology

Apple's Principal Research Scientist Kim Silverman (BSc 1978), returned to Monash last month to give students and alumni insights into Apple's approach in managing the path from research to product development. Silverman, who in his spare time is President of the Society of American Magicians (Palo Alto chapter), demonstrated Apple's latest technologies in speech recognition and speech synthesis.

About the speaker: Kim has a B. Sc. from Monash with a double major in Information Science and Experimental Psychology, and did his Honours in Computer Science at Melbourne University. His PhD in Speech Synthesis is from Cambridge University, and he did his Post-Doctoral research at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey. He currently directs research and product development in Speech Synthesis, Speech Recognition, Voice Verification, Latent Semantic Analysis, and their integration into the User Interface. His patents and publications are in the same
areas.
