Alumni share experiences of children's healthSeminar gives students insight into working with children with chronic illness, diability or life-threatening conditionsSeptember 2007
Alumni from the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences recently held an event that gave students a practical insight into helping children with chronic illness, disability or life-threatening conditions and their parents. Based on the recent book There’s No Such Thing As A Silly Question, produced by Interact and published by Very Special Kids and the Gandel Trust, a panel of experienced parents and professionals explored the difficulties associated with caring for children who are unwell. The panel included alumni Dr Amanda Walker (MBBS 1984, BMedSc(Hons) 1984, MD 1996, GradCertHE 2006), Monash University’s Paediatric Course Coordinator, and Mrs Carol Quayle (BSocWk 1998, MSocWk 2002), social worker and manager of the Victorian Paediatric Palliative Care Program. The event moderator was Dr Sally Cockburn (MBBS 1982). Alumni who are interested in participating in similar events to prepare students for life after university should contact: Links: |
