Alumni success at Beijing Olympics
Monash University congratulates Brenton Rickard (BSc 2006) and Travis Brooks OAM (BComp 2005) who contributed to Australia’s medal count at the Olympics last month.

The results of Monash research into how cancer cells develop and mutate could ultimately change treatment options for sufferers around the world.

     
 

MSO offers alumni discount
In 2008 and 2009, Monash alumni are entitled to a discount on tickets to all Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performances at the Clayton campus' Robert Blackwood Hall.

Monash Alumni Relations will offer 100 complimentary tickets to alumni for the 'Music in the Round' festival at the Clayton campus on 21 September.

     
 

Educate08: The Great Alumni and Friends Debate
Prominent Monash alumni will debate the topic 'Is it a good thing that I have forgotten more than I have learned?' at The Langham Melbourne on 7 October as part of Educate08 week.

     
 

Alumni receptions: Canada and Japan
Australian Education International will host receptions for Australian university alumni in Toronto on Thursday 18 September and in Tokyo on Friday 19 September.

This is your last chance to register for the Gearing for Success seminar on 5 September at Federation Square. The guest speaker is Alan Oppenheim (BSc(Hons) 1981).

     
 

Information sessions: Monash postgraduate study
Alumni are invited to a variety of postgraduate course information sessions at the University’s Victorian campuses from September to December 2008.

     
 

Monash event: Stem Cell Awareness Day
This world-first event aims to generate a greater understanding among the general public, patients and their carers of all aspects of stem cells. Featuring leading researchers and clinicians, this free event will be held in Clayton on 25 September.

On 9 October at The Langham Melbourne, Professor Bernadette McSherry will discuss the challenge to educate people about laws regulating the treatment of people with serious mental illnesses.

 

 

Alumni profile

Alumnus leads forensic revolution
Maxwell Jones (BSc 1978) is a forensic scientist with Victoria Police. In the mid-1990s, he played a vital role in revolutionising the use of DNA in forensic investigations.
