New Monash scholarship to foster science research
Monash University has launched a new scholarship program to support talented students wanting to pursue a Higher Degree by Research in Science.

     
 

Alumni duo leads Hawthorn to victory
Hawthorn's win in the recent AFL Grand Final was set up by two Monash alumni - Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson (MBA 1998) and chief executive Ian Robson (BEc 1983).

     
 

Monash helps African fisheries
A manual written by a Law faculty academic is helping developing African countries negotiate more lucrative and sustainable fisheries agreements with foreign trading partners.

Educate08: The Great Alumni and Friends Debate
On 7 October, Jane Clifton (BA 1972) and Sally Cockburn (MBBS 1982) will take part in this debate at The Langham Melbourne. The event is part of Monash's Educate08 program.

Marketing seminar: measuring digital media
On 14 November at Federation Square, three speakers will discuss the challenges of measuring digital media. The presenters bring expertise from Ford, Hitwise and Next Digital.

     
 

Art & Design event: lunchtime art forums
The final two forums for 2008, at the Caulfield campus (8 and 15 October) will feature studio artist Simon Pericich and Australian Research Council fellow Charles Wolfe.

     
 

Seminar: career pathways for Indigenous students
'Yarning up: Making a difference through High Education', on 14 October at the Clayton campus, aims to inspire Indigenous people to consider careers in the law and the arts.

Educate08 lecture: rethinking mental health laws
On 9 October at The Langham Melbourne, Professor Bernadette McSherry will discuss the challenge of educating people about laws regulating the treatment of people with mental illnesses.

     
 

Public lecture: 2008 Rod Andrew Oration
Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, pioneering British heart and lung transplant surgeon, will present this 50th Anniversary Public Lecture at Federation Square on 28 October.

 

 

Alumni profile

An adventurous epidemiologist
With a history of travel adventures, Dr Tony Stewart (MBBS 1981) this year signed up for an Antarctic mission as the medical officer for the team conservating Douglas Mawson's Hut in Commonwealth Bay.
