New president for Singapore Alumni Association

Dato' Dr Jannie Tay has been appointed president of the Monash University Alumni Association Singapore. Outgoing president Dr Lim Shun Ping made the announcement at the annual dinner for alumni and friends in Singapore last month. The dinner was attended by vice-chancellor Professor Richard Larkins, Chancellor Mr Jerry Ellis and over 150 members of the Monash alumni community in Singapore. <more>

Traditional celebrations in Hong Kong

Over 50 members of the The Monash University Hong Kong Alumni Association celebrated the mid-Autumn festival 'Hung Ming Lantern' last month. Lanterns were made then cast off into the sky in the Chinese tradition. A two-day camping trip is planned for the end of October. Contact Sarah Ng for details.

Alumnus heads stock exchange Tony D'Aloisio
New CEO of ASX Tony D'Aloisio

Arts/Law graduate Tony D'Aloisio takes over the helm of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) this month, when he begins his new role as Managing Director and CEO. Previously Chief Executive Partner of law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Tony graduated with first class honours from Monash in 1972.

Elite athlete Dr Nigel Aylott (BSc(Hons), BE, Phd(Eng), MBA) died tragically while competing in an adventure race in the US last month.

Alumni show support

A special event was held last month to acknowledge a valuable gift of equipment from Siemens Australia to Monash University. The gift of the Transexpress Infinity Multiwavelength Transport System represents the involvement of alumni in the life of Monash and will contribute significantly to the teaching programs of the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering. <Giving website>
