Alumna releases new filmJune 2009Monash alumna Fiona Cochrane (MBBS(Hons) 1980) has produced and directed a new film premiering in Melbourne this month. Four of a Kind will start screening exclusively at Cinema Nova in Carlton from Thursday 11 June, and will run for a limited season. The Australian drama, which had its international debut at the 2008 Montreal World Film Festival, has already shown favour with audiences in the USA. It was named ‘Best Feature Film’ at the 2009 SkyFest Film & Script Festival and runner-up for ‘Audience Favourite Feature’ at the 2009 Riverside International Film Festival. The Australian Film Institute describes Four of a Kind as follows: “While interviewing a surgeon’s wife for a murder investigation, a cop remembers a long-forgotten crime, revealed later to her psychiatrist. But the psychiatrist has problems of her own. Her new lover, a much younger man, might be having an affair. Her best friend might be a blackmailer, or even a murderer. The surgeon’s wife prefers to omit the truth, but in the end, the truth will out...or will it?” The film is based on Helen Collins’ play Disclosure, which was performed at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and La Mama Theatre in 2006.
