The Department of Civil Engineering has named Professor Scott Sloan (BE(Civil) 1976, MEngSci(Civil) 1978), 'Alumnus of the Year' 2005. The award recognises alumni of the department who have made a significant contribution to the engineering profession and the community. Professor Sloan will be presented with the award at an alumni dinner on 23 September. <more>

Glass artist Clare Belfrage BA (CeramicDes) 1989) is this year's winner of the Tom Malone Prize for glass, awarded by the Art Gallery of Western Australia. She hasn't stopped working with hot glass since falling in love with it as a student and now her work can be found in galleries in Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Paris, Seattle and Milan.<more>
