Alumni giving makes a differenceJuly 2009
Monash University students will benefit from the generosity of Monash graduates who gave through the alumni philanthropy campaign. In June, alumni were invited to support our future leaders – Monash students – through the first ever email and direct mail appeal by Monash University. The alumni campaign followed a similarly successful appeal to Monash staff in April. Trevor O’Hoy (BEc 1976), Chair of the Monash University Campaign, is thrilled with the overwhelming response from alumni. “Many thanks to those alumni who reached out to our students,” Mr O’Hoy said. “Your gift is an investment in the future of students who may not otherwise receive an education.” “It is inspiring to see alumni support a wide range of causes from scholarships and bursaries, to research, to the Monash libraries.” In an outstanding gesture, Monash alumnus Clive Weeks (BE 1969, MEngSc 1972) pledged to match every dollar donated to the Faculty of Engineering or its leadership program, up to $250,000. “When I read the Chancellor’s email, I realised that this was an opportunity for me to give back to an institution that made a difference in my life. So I decided to help current Engineering students access the important Leadership Development Program within the Faculty,” Mr Weeks said. The broader Monash+ campaign has already raised more than $90 million for student support, teaching and learning, research, and campus enhancements.
