Award named in honour of prominent alumna Susan Lim

February 2008

Prominent Monash University alumna Dr Susan Lim (MBBS (w/hons) 1979) has been recognised by an American medical academy who this month named its 28th Award in her honour.

'The Dr Susan Lim Award' will pay tribute to advances made in minimally invasive surgery and will be presented to two international surgeons at the 2008 Arab Health Exhibition and Conference in Dubai next week. It is the first time that the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) has named an award after a doctor.

AACME said it wanted to honour the extraordinary career, contribution and international achievements Dr Lim has made to the field of surgery.

"Through this Award (AACME) hopes to inspire future generations of doctors to follow Dr Lim's relentless pursuits and commitment to support initiatives for professional development, the advancement of graduate medical education and clinical practice," said Dr Andrew Nashashibi, chairman of the international board of regents at AACME.

Dr Lim said she was delighted to have been honoured in such a way.

"I am both happy and honoured to be recognised by AACME. I accept this recognition but wish to acknowledge the contributions of surgical leaders before me," she said.
