Distinguished Alumni Award medals are awarded each year to Monash graduates or diplomates who have demonstrated outstanding professional achievements, inspirational leadership and exceptional human qualities.

Alumni profile: Richard Zhong
Richard Zhong (PhD Sci 1992)
Congratulations to Richard Zhong (PhD Sci 1992) who has received the prestigious 2006 International Business Award (IBA) in the Corporate Image Video category.

The award was given to Mr Zhong for his work as founder and creative director for ERICHEN (Shanghai) Ltd and his role in creating an image video and an English website for a private Chinese company which went on to be selected as one of the three direct suppliers of anti-malaria drugs to the World Health Organisation.

Australian origins, international future

Monash University's Engaging the World vision was released on 2 August.

Engaging the World recognises the need for universities, particularly those in an economically and geographically isolated country such as Australia, to actively participate in the global research networks that are developing solutions to some of the problems that threaten humanity's survival.

 
Monash Fun Run Festival: Singapore Marathon

Monash University welcomes local and international alumni to join family members and friends for the 2006 Singapore Marathon on Sunday 3 December as part of the Monash Fun Run Festival.

  • WALK or RUN the 10km, 21.1km (half marathon) or 42.195km (marathon) course
  • WHEEL the 10km (for wheelchair participants) course
  • SPRINT the 750m "Kids Dash" (13 yrs or under)
  • VOLUNTEER as a pre-event or race-organiser or a "Team Spirit" leader
  • Make up a 4 x 10km RELAY TEAM

NOTE*** The first 150 Monash alumni or students plus family and friends who join the Monash team for the event will receive FREE registration, t-shirt, sports pack, post-event massage, entry to the pre-event Cocktail Party and, most importantly, networking opportunities.

Professional Development

Graduate Certificate in Forensic Studies

The Law Faculty's International Institute of Forensic Studies and the Faculty of Engineering have developed a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Studies (Construction and Engineering), developed to meet the growing need for professional advocacy and expert evidence training in the construction and engineering professions.

The course will be offered concurrently in 2007. It is predominantly based online with a total of 3 face-to-face sessions which are held in Melbourne.

With more than 500 postgraduate research and coursework programs available, Monash offers prospective postgraduate students a world of opportunity. During September, October and November, a series of information sessions will be conducted for prospective students.

The information series will be launched with a Research Wine and Cheese Information Evening:

National Science Week: Free public lectures

Stem cells - Generating a healthier future

Hear from two of Monash University’s leading stem cell researchers, Associate Professor Richard Boyd and Dr John Forsythe, who will provide a fascinating discussion on the latest and most promising areas of stem cells research. Topics to be covered include 'Rebooting the immune system' and 'Transforming treatments'.

Victorian College of Pharmacy: Public lecture series

Researchers at the Victorian College of Pharmacy work towards providing insights into diseases in the hope of finding cures. Come and hear how our research makes a difference to the community.

The VCP's Public Lecture Series looks at several important issues in our biomedical community; bird flu, malaria, prostate conditions, drug discovery, medication use and safety and the future of our medicines.

Admission to the public lectures is free, but you must register your attendance.

 
Monash Art and Design: Free art forums

Monash's lunch-time Art Forums provide a taste of the Art and Design Faculty’s vibrant intellectual community.
