Monash alumnus awarded Fulbright ScholarshipApril 2008
Monash alumnus and energy policy expert Cameron O’Reilly (MPubPolMgt 2000) is one of 24 Australians to have received a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship in 2008. The scholarship will enable Mr O’Reilly to study and compare USA and Australian approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector. He will work with the Center for International Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Texas and Georgetown University in the USA. “Receiving the scholarship was a tremendous fillip for me. It will open a number of doors in the US, enabling me to explore the number one public policy challenge confronting the energy sector in Australia, the USA and indeed worldwide,” said Mr O’Reilly. Mr O’Reilly is executive director of the Energy Retailers’ Association of Australia. He is a regular commentator on the development of Australia’s energy markets and said his Monash degree has assisted him along his career path. “My Monash Masters provided excellent grounding in how to frame public policy arguments on behalf of energy companies facing an emissions-constrained future,” said Mr O’Reilly. The Fulbright program is the largest educational scholarship of its kind and was created by the US Government in 1946. The scholarships are worth $25,000-$40,000 each and allow recipients to study and research in the USA for 3-12 months. Links: |
