Mr George Pappas (BEc(Hons) 1968)Distinguished Alumni Service Award 2009
Mr George Pappas is a prominent Monash University volunteer. He is a highly valued contributor to the University, in particular to the faculties of Business and Economics, and Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Mr Pappas is a member of the Advisory Boards of the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. He is also Vice-Chair of the Monash University Medical Foundation Board. Currently Chairman of the Committee for Melbourne, Mr Pappas has had an extensive career in business and consulting. He draws on this expertise to provide generous support to the University through networking with stakeholders, offering strategic advice, and attending or speaking at special events. In his nomination statement, Professor Leon Piterman AM (MEdSt 1990) comments on Mr Pappas’s history of commitment to the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, stating that he is “an exemplary ambassador to the Foundation and Faculty”. He writes that Mr Pappas “has devoted scores of hours cultivating vital external relations, including donor relations, to the Faculty and generously supported alumni events … in addition to providing invaluable strategic guidance and wisdom to both Boards.” Governor of Victoria Professor David de Kretser AC (MD 1969, HonLLD 2006), who supported Mr Pappas’s nomination, describes him as “a truly distinguished graduate” who has “provided valuable assistance” to Monash University.
