Professor Robin Pollard - Pro Vice-Chancellor (Malaysia)

Professor Robin Pollard is responsible for the Monash Malaysia campus located at Bandar Sunway, Selangor. His vision is for the campus to be the premier private research-intensive university in South East Asia, contributing to the Malaysian nation and to the region.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Malaysia), his responsibilities include:

  • managing and coordinating ongoing academic development
  • line management for academic and administrative staff
  • general supervision of arrangements for instruction, administration, day-to-day affairs, welfare and discipline

Professional background

Prior to his current role, Professor Pollard was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development and International) at the University of New England.  He is no stranger to Malaysia, having been the Foundation Professor and Head, School of Business and Information Technology at the Monash campus from 1998 to 2000. He has worked in universities in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and Great Britain.

Academic interests

Professor Pollard has a background in condensed matter physics. He has also held academic positions in information technology, marketing and in chemistry.

Some of his academic interests include:

  • issues in transnational education
  • the relationships between abilities, attitudes and motivation of staff
  • the privatisation of higher education
