Professor Jayne Godfrey
President of the Academic Board

Professor Jayne Godfrey holds a PhD from the University of Queensland, a Master of Economics from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Melbourne, and a Diploma of Education from the Melbourne State College of Victoria.

Professor Godfrey joined Monash University in 2002 as Professor of Financial Accounting. She has since served the University as Head of Department of Accounting and Finance, and then as Deputy Dean, Research of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Professor Godfrey's research focuses upon the impact of accounting regulation on firms' financing and investment decisions and the financing and investment implications of alternative contractual and reporting arrangements.

In addition to her accounting and finance research, Professor Godfrey has worked in teams whose education research and practices have culminated in innovative teaching and learning initiatives and a report to government. She co-authors the leading Australian text on accounting theory, now into its sixth edition, as well as an extensive list of research publications.

For her service to Australian society through business leadership, Professor Godfrey was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal. She has served on the Australian Accounting Standards Board, the Tasmanian Financial and Business Services Industry Council and as a director of the Tasmania Public Finance Corporation (TasCorp). She is a past President of what is now the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand, a past Divisional President of CPA Australia, and was a member of the inaugural Board of Management of the Melbourne Centre for Financial Studies.
